                                    BREAK DOWN OF CURRICULUM

Reading- In third grade we will work on reading to learn. Students will use context clues, make inferences, make predictions and use other reading skills to better understand a topic. We will use Houghton Mifflin Reading series, as well as several chapter books accompanied with literature units. I will also be encouraging individual to meet group and individual goals through our Accelerated Reading programs. AR books will travel back and forth from school and home daily. Encourage your child to read at least 15 minutes a night. Testing days for 3rd Grade will be on Tuesday and Thursday at 10:35/

Math- In math we will go over place value, adding and subtracting with and without regrouping, memorizing multiplication facts, multiply with two or three digits, division, long division problems, fractions, decimals, percentages, geometry, measurement concepts and multi-step story problems.

Writing/Language Arts- In third grade we write in a journal daily. During class we will be going over the mechanics of writing a sentence and a paragraph. Everyday we will practice editing sentences. We will learn how to organize our thoughts. Students will decipher between telling a story and writing to inform. Third graders learn parts of speech and other grammar skills to help improve their writing.

Religion- Religion will be taught everyday with Sr. Bernadette from 9:00 am to 9:30 am

Social Studies/ Science -Students will learn about map skills, complete project on ‘’ All About Me ’’, look at the presidential election, study Thanksgiving, learn how to help the earth by creating recycled show and tell, and complete a project about a U.S state. In Science we will explore some physical, earth, and life science concepts.

As an attempt to help with critical organization skills in third grade, I have had the kids put together a M.O.O.S.E (Management Of Organizational Skills Everyday) Folder. Entries should be made daily so please look at all of the sections.

Homework & Word Lists- This folder will contain work to be done at home and turned in. It will also contain work that your child has completed at school. Our weekly spelling lest will also be found in this folder  at the start of each wekk.

School Notes - This folder will contain any notes from school

Parent teacher Communication - This folder will have notes from me to you and vise versus

Planner - A planner will be filled out on a daily basis. Please take a look at your child’s planner and sign somewhere on the page letting me know you have checked it for homework. Work not completed in class will be circled and should be done as homework.
